Uptown Violin welcomes violin students age 4 to adult, all levels.
Young beginners are introduced to the violin with the Suzuki Method, a step by step approach to learning that emphasizes daily practice with a parent, listening to recordings of the core repertory as well as repetition and review. As students progress, other material is introduced to supplement the Suzuki repertoire, as are pieces from outside the Suzuki books.
Beginners who are older are taught using a blend of complementary approaches, taking into account the students age and prior musical experience.
Parental involvement is essential for success, as is a commitment to daily practice. Parents are asked to act as home practice partner/guide and to attend their child’s weekly lesson, taking notes. As students become older, they may work more independently.
For those students wishing to play with one of the local youth orchestras, help with audition preparation is offered.
A yearly recital is given in the spring as an opportunity for students to share their music with others.
Weekly group lessons for small groups of beginners will be offered as a complement to private lessons beginning in the new year.
